2021 RECAP OF RUMBLE ON THE RIDGE, FORREST CITY AR
Fast, slow, half court, full court – whatever needed, Marion used six Arkansas teams and a pair of Tennessee entries helped bring the Rumble on the Ridge Thanksgiving tournament back to full strength after the 2020 Covid season slammed a few doors.
Two of those in state teams, Marion and Paragould were making their first-ever appearance at the three-day tournament.
Both were looking to make some noise in the winner’s side of the bracket and so they did….loudly.
Marion opened with a win over Little Rock Hall while Blytheville put away Marianna lee handily. in the two winner’s semifinal games, Marion faced and defeated a Tennessee team for the second time holding off Arlington to move into the championship game while Blytheville held off the host team Mustangs by two points to notch their berth in the final.
As for the Forrest City Mustangs, they didn’t finish first, but it wasn’t a last place finish for the host team either. The Mustangs held off Arlington, Tenn to finish third in their own tournament.
It was an exceptional outing for the Mustangs, getting points from nine different players and draining nine three pointers
And in a scenario that most basketball fans may not have seen coming, Marion played their way into the championship game to face Blytheville, a team making its second appearance in the tournament, since their first visit in 2016 when that team finished seventh in the eight-team format.
